鋸南町都市交流施設・道の駅保田小学校に隣接する敷地にある、廃園した幼稚園（旧鋸南幼稚園)を改修し、道の駅の一部として付加するプロジェクトである。既存施設には年間100万人を超える観光客が訪れ、賑わいを見せているが、本施設では更なる展開として、観光客だけでなく地域の人々が積極的に施設に関わる仕組みを建築化できないかと考えた。旧鋸南幼稚園は、既存不適格調書を提出して改修工事を行なった。改修による新旧の対比を表すというより、感覚的な表現ではあるが、もともとあった旋律に合う和音をみつけるような作業だった。近隣住民がアクセスしやすいように屋外化した ‘通り土間’ を設け、屋根形状や特徴的なドーマ窓を残している。春になると周辺の河津桜や園庭の桜（既存）がもたらすハレの日を想い、外装は桜色に仕上げた。 室内の仕上げは、既存の躯体状態を拾う板材（木毛セメント板）で仕上げている。園庭には、隣接する保田小学校と結ばれる「わっか」と呼ぶ屋外回遊路を増築し、風景に溶け込む軽やかな木造と鉄骨造のハイブリッドで構成させた。また、折半屋根やFRPグレーチング、ブーゲンビリアの植栽などで小学校との連続性を意識している。敷地は南北に傾斜しており、床レベルは園舎に近づくにつれてもち上がり、頭上は3%の屋根勾配により低くなり、徐々に幼稚園のスケールへと近づいていく。歩廊の床と屋根をつなぐ柱群はあたかも霜柱のような光景を呈している。わっかの形状は人々に一体感を与える。その場での過ごし方や使い方を自由に想像し、実践させる余白がこの場所には必要だと考えた。

it is a renovation project of an abandoned kindergarten. in kyonan town, where the population is rapidly declining, school facilities have been closing one after another in recent years. in 2015, the elementary school next to the site was renovated and opened as a roadside station. this project is an expansion of the roadside station. it was hoped that the facility would be used not only by tourists but also by local residents. park facilities are rarely maintained in rural suburbs like kyonan town. for this reason, we planned a circular garden in the center surrounded by a walkway. the ground slopes gently, and the donut-shaped roof gradually lowers. the scale gradually becomes smaller, approaching the scale of a kindergarten. it has a reciprocal structure of steel and wood.
